“And whoever does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me.”
This verse allows only room for denying self, taking responsibility, and following our Savior wherever He leads. Could this be the completion of joy? Let’s look a little further in John 3:29 & 30: “The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is now complete. He must increase, but I must decrease.” If we end with our duty as the completion of our joy, Jesus is no longer needed. But John, as a friend of the bridegroom (Jesus) rejoices greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. John’s joy is now complete in Jesus.
